COMMUNITY FOLK SCHOOL

The Wild Twin Community Folk School nurtures grassroots community connection around old ways of human-being — storytelling, song, ritual, music, celebration, relationship with place, and traditional craft. We are a group of non-experts working together to offer wholesome, meaningful alternatives to the perfectionism, isolation, and rush of modernity. Through our seasonal festivals, gatherings, and workshops, we aspire to tend the village fire, keep alive the old ways, and nourish our relationships with land, spirit, and each other.

On Courting the Wild Twin
"The wild twin is not unique to me; you have one, everyone has one. That’s the message from the old stories. That the day you were born, a twin was thrown out the window and sent into exile. That it wanders the woods and the prairies and the cities, lonely in its whole body for you….
I believe that in the labour of becoming a human, you have to earnestly search this character out... If there was something you were here to do in these few, brief years, you can be sure that the wild twin is holding the key. Though I’m not sure we ever really, properly, catch up with our wild twin... The pursuit is the thing, the glimpse is the thing.... But never to search? Well, that’s missing out on life altogether."
— Dr. Martin Shaw, Courting the Wild Twin
WHAT WE DO

SEASONAL
FESTIVALS
Gather in community to celebrate the turning of the seasons. We celebrate the four quarter day festivals of the Celtic calendar — Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane, and Lammas — linking them to our ecology here in North Florida. Come sing songs, hear stories, reflect on the seasons, and enjoy food & folk music in community.

STORYTELLINGS & GROUP SONG
Gather intimately in circle to hear stories and sing songs. We gather once a fortnight to build community around old ways of togetherness. Bring a story, poem, or song to share, or just come with a listening ear. This is a great low-key environment for new storytellers to practice their craft.

WORKSHOPS
& CLASSES
Workshops and courses on the art of storytelling, traditional crafts, song, and practices that cultivate our relationship with place. If you are a teacher of folk & traditional crafts, we would love to help you organize a workshop or course through our folk school. Contact us to arrange this.

TRAVELLING TELLERS
Are you a traveling storyteller, song leader, or teacher of folk & traditional arts? We help traveling folk artists share their magic with our community, helping you find a venue, organize a local event or workshop, and advertise your event to our audience. Contact us to arrange.
Join our next seasonal
Village Festival:
BELTANE
A modern celebration of Beltane, evolving with participants. The purpose of our festival is not to recreate ancient practices but to create our own connection to the cycles of nature in the spirit of our ancestors, bringing the community together around storytelling and the turn of the seasons.
Interested to volunteer for the next festival? We are looking for volunteers to help with creating decorations and assist with set up. Email us at wildtwinfolkschool@gmail.com.
